Post Z-loader and ZIC-firmware
Hello friends,

I have 2 questions on the Z-loader and the ZIC-Firmware.

In order to use ToH-HoT-Firmware, the original Z-loader and the original System-ID "0102.0600" have to be replaced by loader H2.08 or H2.19 and by system-ID "0016.0600" (Z-model) or "0016.0601" (Z+-model).

My suspicion is:

1.
Once the Z-loader has been replaced by loader H2.08 or H2.19, there is no way back to the Z-loader.
(I don't refer to the "backpatch" which was used a long time ago to fake a damaged Z-loader when the receiver had to be sent to Humax Digital for some hardware-repair.)
Technically, it is not possible to install a working Z-loader again.

2.
Consequently, as there is no way back to a functional Z-loader, you can't load ZIC-Firmware again. There is no way back to ZIC-Firmware either.

Am I right?

(I am, of course, fully aware that someone with the intention of using the Z-loader and the Z-firmware again must have gone nuts and should see a doctor ....  Laughing  )

Regards

Lombardo

Hallo Lombardo,

you 're perfectly right Wink
You cannot send to your IRCI a ZIC boot loader or firmware with traditional download tools throught RS-232
Only way to restore original firmware and boot loader in IRCI-5400Z is to reprogram Flash#1 with a dump but you need to unsolder flash and to use a special device programmer ... so that maybe this file should work:

Flash Dump TE28F160 5400Z

(I never tested it anyway for the reasons you said above Very Happy )

Hello CrazySat,

thanks for your reply!

Just as I had suspected .....

Thinking about loading the Z-loader and the ZIC-firmware again makes any Humax-enthusiast feel very uncomfortable  Shocked ; so it is not very surprising that some terrible misspelling had happened in my sentences. I was quite embarrassed to see that I had forgotten to add the letter "t" in a place where it is badly needed:

Fortunately, there was no misunderstanding (the apostrophe still left over might have saved the meaning...).  Wink

Of course, unsoldering and external programming of Flash #1 can only be done by experts.

I have often wondered if this technique (unsoldering and external programming) used to be quite common in those cases where the JP250 was sealed and the original Z-loader had to be replaced. Working with professional equippment (for SMD-soldering) it may have been safer and easier to unsolder Flash #1 than to remove the sealing stuff. But I am no technician to make a reliable judgement on what is actually more difficult and risky: removing the sealing stuff or unsoldering/external programming of Flash #1.
And one thing is for sure: Once the sealing compound has been removed successfully, you are well prepared for loader-problems yet to come; you have always free and fast access to JP250.
